3D Printed Hollow Form Object

Image
3D Printed Hollow Form Object      When creating my five designs I was mostly just experimenting and not focusing on printability. At some point I had the idea using them for a night light. My final print does actually serve this purpose. The print quality ended up doing extremely well in the mid section of the design but was significantly rough around steeper parts of the top and bottom of the design. 5 design concepts: Left to right numbered 1-5 Function: Objects 2, 3, and 4, are purely for aesthetics and have no other purpose. Object 1 and 5 can be used as a night light I intend to make eventually. Form: Objects 1 and 2 are pretty basic and boring. 4 is also basic but slightly more interesting. I believe objects 3 and 5 are the most aethetically pleasing. Self-supporting: Objects 1 and 5 would print without support material. The horizontal circle in object 2, top and bottom circular curves in object 3, and hanging edges of object 4 would need support material to...

Papercraft: Prototype Craft & Edits

Image
Papercraft: Prototype & Edits     The first prototype of the small chicken box was difficult to create due to its size, but I believe the choice of paper also contributed to this difficulty. The nest was a much thicker material and the glue stick did not hold so various other glues were used and the overall result was not as neat as I would have liked. The chicken however was a success and turned out very well. I noticed that the thinner paper and hole in the bottom allowed me to easier manipulate the piece. For this reason, I will choose a thinner paper and add a hole to the bottom of the nest. I also noticed some errors in my template and that need to be corrected and I will add side by side comparisons of my fixes in my next blog.

Papercraft: Prototype Model

Papercraft: First Prototype      The chicken will fit inside the nest and be removable. This forms a tiny functional box using the nest as a base and chicken as a lid. The contact areas of the base and lid are parallel and similar dimensions, and the bottom of the chicken has a large hole to allow the inside to be used as storage.       The chicken has a detail that will be cut out separately which is its comb and wattles. This is a 2D piece that will fit through two slits above and below the head of the chicken and secured internally via tabs (tabs labeled with an "X"). Papercraft: Digital Samples

Papercraft: Digital Samples      Three of my six paper samples will be starting points for my final paper project. I wanted to do a chicken and decided to also add a nest and egg. I love chickens as they have been around in my life due to my slavic background and culture. I'm also vegetarian and my boyfriend has some as pets. That is why I chose this as my paper topic. Colorful Paper Village Installations for Hermes by Zim & Zou I would like to make the nest or chicken be textured similar to the image above when it is finished.  Sample 1: Nest Sample 2: Chicken The chicken bottom lines up with the next dimensions so it can sit inside. I also made a hole on the bottom of it to make it usable box. I can add an egg inside. Sample 3: Egg

HD Renders

I decided to give the Femme shroom an overall matte finish, with metal shiny accents for the rings, and clear material for the crystals. Regarding lighting, I wanted the entire render to be fairly dark and have soft light illuminating the body and two light sources emitting from the crystals. I thought this would make the lighting more interesting while still following my initial concept for the model as faux glow in the dark crystals could be used in the jewelry. I created a custom material that emits this glow.
